Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2021, the H08 is an all-new men’s watch from Hermès. Featuring a cushion-shaped case and a Vaucher movement, the H08 is typical of Hermes in its restrained, thoughtful styling exemplified by the custom typography. This thoroughly modern all-terrain watch is a departure from the Maison's more refined silhouettes, with a new case architecture that offers a distinct everyday-wear quality.
The black nickle-treated satin-brushed minutes disc provides a moment of shine in the middle of the matte dial, and the Super-LumiNova on the already pretty large Arabic numerals provides legibility. Through the open caseback you'll find one of my favorite parts of the watch, the engraving on the oscillating weight.
For 2023, Hermes revisits the still-fresh H08 with a series of new models that feature new materials and a tweaked look. In this article, I will focus on the Hermes H08 “Colors,” which include four new models accented in either blue, green, orange, or yellow. The movement powering the H08 is the Hermès H1837, used in many of the brand’s men’s watches. This movement is manufactured in the Vaucher manufacture in Fleurier, and is a product of a partnership between Hermès and Parmigiani, Vaucher’s parent company. Inside the Hermès H08 you have the H1837 automatic movement, which powers a number of the watches that Hermès classifies as men’s watches (we think the slim 39mm case would easily fit a variety of wrists, whatever your gender), and is built by Vaucher for the brand.
